Chippenham Show

Well, interesting show for me. I had great hopes for Hoax after the way she has been working recently.

First run was a very simple jumping course she was going well until a curve after a straight line and she just went straight past a jump! Ok, maybe my fault, maybe I drove instead of turning too much?

Next a tricky agility which I fancied... nice startline wait... straight past the first jump... which was in front of her...

Finally, another nice agility course, fantastic fast contacts... missed her simple weave entry!

Grrr... I am sure the merle will come good sometime, after all the work I have put in over the winter I feel a little despondent. She has taken a lot of work so far and still is hard work! Difficult little one.

Onwards and upwards- will put it as indoor show nerves/ stress from Hoax and look forward to WBSDS :)

Crufts 2010 & Ajaxs

Well it's all over for another year. I've had a great time at Crufts this year and so hope I can get back there next year.

The medium teams course was a tough one. On paper it was very tricky and in reality was only slightly better. For a fast collie team it was going to be a massive challenge- and that it was, we picked up three Eliminations. It was a shame watching people going into the arena feeling negative about a course and seeing dog after dog go wrong, I wonder if the judge thought in the end that the course was inappropriate for a team relay, a wait startline would have made a massive difference.

However, Hoaxey worked well and a hesitation after the collapsible allowed me to keep control in the tricky section. She did me proud and ran clear. I am lucky to have supportive team mates and had a great groom for the day. All in all we had a very good day!

Sunday we decided to pop over to Ajaxs show and Boo isn't fit yet so I just ran Hoax. Nov Agility first and she ran ok but not quite herself and doubled up her weave entry. Went onto a jumping course that I really liked, bar a handling error on my part which she saved me from she ran well and clear. Finally P&S and she felt more like my proper Hoax, she did a really nice run in this one. She won both classes that she went clear in :)

I feel like we are starting to get it together in a partnership now and she is really trying hard to get it right. We have some way to go yet but I am looking forward to a good season!

Crufts Preperation

Well, I have been working hard for Crufts but who knows if the prep will be enough? You can't prepare for every course and every eventuality.

I worked on Hoax's biggest weakness of last season- her weave entries but who's to say on the day she won't slip, hit a strut or just find the atmosphere difficult to focus in. I have done two practise sessions on the astroturf surface which has helped me with my timing and helped Hoax to figure her footing out a bit but she can still slip or my timing can be off on it.

I hope I don't let my team down but at least if we are the ones to go wrong I feel that I have done what I can to prepare. I love my little merlie girl and hope we are on the same wavelength tomorrow.

Watch this space for my report!

ps Hoax mum Wispa is in the medium teams too running for Kidderminster so watch out for her!!!

ideas for proofing waits

Ok, so new ideas needed for proofing waits at home. I am finding it hard to trick D to move now, I have tried:
throwing/ dropping food & toys
putting food inches away from his nose to tease him
running away
running towards
walking behind
playing 123

the biggest challenge for him is new enviroments but I am limited with that each day coz of Ethan so trying to find as much as I can to do at home.

Bet I still end up with a twitchy startline :D

Biological or ?

Does anyone have experience of having an entire bitch and her own entire dog puppy together?

Hoax is in season now and flirting like a mad thing with thing with the boys and throwing herself at Boo. However she is still acting completely motherly with Detour who shows no intrest in her either. I am keeping them apart when I am out the room anyway just in case but they couldnt be less bothered.

So- anyone else experienced anything simular?
