Linx' issues

Well, we have finally got organised and contacted the vet. Linx has the signs of HD (Hip Dysplasia), although he was scored as a youngster at 6:4 which was pretty good! It does mean that his agility career will be shortlived, but short term it isn't all doom and gloom. We will start treating Linx with Glucosamine and Chrondrotin. The vet stressed to us that at the moment it is imperative to keep Linx lean and muscled. She doesn't think that his agility career should be stopped now- just kept low impact and not too intensive if possible. We know as he gets older the joint will deteriorate but we want to do our best to support him for now and then.

So sorry to hear about Linx, bless him.A real blow for Nic too. I know how it feels up to a point cos of Pop. all my lot have cosequin daily as a prevetative (Arch for his knees) and if you are interested I can tell you how to get hold of it much cheaper than if you buy it here...(unless you can get joint stuff on insurance of course!)Hxx

sorry to hear the news, blaze my first collies had it had he told me flately that enough was enough, he was like mic and skate and would do what ever he liked in the ring but one day he refused, he had hd and told me when it was time to stop. he had injections and so on, i took the decision to retire him and he stopped his agility at the age of 6ish, i was gutted but he had made most of the decision himself, this was before the likes of veterans and allsorts he lived a long and happy life as a pet and loved all the attention he got. so be strong

Really sorry to hear about Linx Gem :(

Hopefully he'll be able to carry on enjoying his agility a bit longer now at least you know it's not actually doing him any harm. As the vet said, it's more important to keep him fit, active and well muscled. Fingers crossed the supplements help too.
